Learning Support
Learning Support Department
Learning support teachers offer extra tuition to some students in various subjects to help them cope with the syllabus. This tuition is carried out one to one or in small groups, which benefit the students. Extra English classes are offered to non-national students if the need arises.
Special Educational Needs
 In welcoming applications from students with special educational needs, the school will use the resources, both financial and personnel, provided by the Department of Education and Science, to make reasonable provision and accommodation for all such students and will ensure that these students are free to participate in the life of the school in so far as is reasonably practicable. While recognising and fully supporting parents right to have a school of their choice for their children, the schools ability to accept students with particular needs are dependent on the supply of resources, suitable to the needs of the individual student, being supplied by the Department of Education and Science.In making provision for students with special educational needs the following procedure will be carried out. Prior to entry to DLS College;
The Principal will request all relevant documentation, psychologists’ reports, specialists’ reports, Individualised Education Programmes and school reports from the Primary school. The Principal will request that the Primary school seek permission from parents before the documents are released. We are committed to respectfully and sensitively dealing with how information is received, shared, stored and accessed.
Psychological Assessments will be forwarded to the Department of Education and Science in support of the application for resource teaching hours for the coming academic year.
Support will be offered at the earliest stage possible. Other students will be offered support as the student profile of needs emerges during the academic term.
Individualised Education Programmes will be drawn up to address the needs of each pupil who will receive special needs teaching.
Grants are available for the purchase and maintenance of any equipment needed to support the special educational needs of the student.
Regular class assessments / tests are given by mainstream teachers who help to establish the emergent special educational needs / learning support profile of the student, and educational provision is planned accordingly.
